Houston, TX, January 21, 2019 – Brookfield Properties recently announced that they have partnered with Construction Career Collaborative or C3, to make the planned redevelopment of Houston Center a C3 Project.
The four-building, 4.2 million square foot, five-block-long, 9.5-acre LEED Gold mixed-use development in downtown Houston was acquired by Brookfield in 2017.
“We welcome Brookfield as a C3 Owner and know that their dedication to providing a construction team of safe, skilled craft workers will ensure the type of finished office, retail space and streetscape that Brookfield brings to its tenants across the country and around the globe,” said C3 Executive Director, Chuck Gremillion.
The Brookfield redevelopment team includes the architecture firm, Gensler, and contractor, D.E. Harvey Builders, both companies that are actively involved in the C3 initiative. Brookfield is committed to use the C3 process on this major project that includes the redevelopment of 3 high-rise office towers and a 16-story office building, entertainment and retail spaces, major outdoor spaces and the redevelopment of a major streetscape that will enhance the pedestrian possibilities on the campus in downtown Houston.
By partnering with C3, Brookfield has committed that all construction craft workers on the project are OSHA safety trained, are W2 employees, not independent subcontractors, who are paid by the hour and eligible to earn overtime pay. These craft workers will also be provided with on-going safety training during the project’s construction, which is scheduled to begin in February of 2019, and they will be protected by workers compensation insurance in the event of an injury while working on the project.
Brookfield joins 10 owners and 350 contractors and specialty contractors who are committed to creating a sustainable workforce in Houston. To date, there have been 29 C3 Projects with a total construction value exceeding $2.1 billion in construction value.

Houston - Chuck Gremillion, C3 executive director, today announced that Texas Mutual Insurance Company, the state’s leading provider of workers’ compensation insurance, has awarded a $100,000 grant to C3 to help strengthen craft training programs throughout the Houston region.
Gremillion said, “We are honored to partner with Texas Mutual and to have their support to provide new career opportunities for future construction craft workers in the Houston region.”
The grant funds will support several C3 efforts, including the C3 accredited employer scholarship program for new and existing C3 accredited employer training classes that cover OSHA safety, craft skills, jobsite leadership, crew leadership and more. The grant will support C3 efforts to identify small businesses and Historically Underutilized Business (HUB) businesses in construction and to advise them on their craft worker and safety training programs.
The grant will also help fund a Career Fair for the Construction industry in the Spring of 2019 and on-going C3 initiatives with local Career & Technical Education programs as well as the coordination of “career signing days” for students who commit to joining a construction company prior to graduation.

Hines joins C3 to continue culture of safe, quality construction
Houston – The Construction Career Collaborative (C3) is pleased to announce that Hines has named its new Block 58 construction project in Downtown Houston a C3-certified project.

The Block 58 project is the first C3-certified collaboration with Hines. The 47-story, one-million-square-foot project designed by Pelli, Clarke, Pelli will be built by Gilbane Building Company, a C3-accredited contractor. As a C3 project, all construction workers on the project will be employees, not independent subcontractors, who will receive hourly pay with overtime and workers’ compensation insurance coverage. Additionally, the workforce will be required to have OSHA safety credentials and will be provided with on-going safety and craft training.

Houston, TX – The Construction Career Collaborative (C3) was notified today that the San Jacinto College District Board of Trustees, at its February 5, 2018 meeting, approved a recommendation that the upcoming Central Campus Welcome Center will be a C3 certified project.
“San Jacinto College is proud to be the first C3 partner in higher education,” said Bryan Jones, San Jacinto College associate vice chancellor, facilities services. “In line with the College values of excellence and accountability, C3 is an organization that demands quality in the area of construction. We expect to see better buildings, better value, and most importantly, safe projects.”

Construction Career Collaborative(C3) Announces 2018 Leadership and Board
Houston, TX— Construction Career Collaborative (C3), a Houston based organization dedicated to building a safe, skilled and sustainable craft workforce in commercial construction, announces the election of four new officers and three new board members for 2018.
Mike Holland, Chief Operating Officer at MAREK will serve as the Chairman. Pete Dawson, Senior Vice President of Facility Services at Texas Children’s Hospital will serve as Vice Chairman. Serving as Treasurer will be MD Anderson’s Vice President of Facilities Management, Serving as Secretary will be Ammie Hudson-Blahuta of Hudson Building Systems.
Joining the board for 2018 are:
Craig Peterson, Vice President at Peterson Beckner Industries (PBI) focuses on business development and sales. He is a 2003 graduate from the University of Virginia with an engineering degree and attained and MBA from the University of Texas and has worked on major energy projects across the US.
John Barnes Senior Vice President of Linbeck Group, LLC, has served in multiple construction / project management roles over the past 32 years including General Manager, Client Executive, Project Manager, Owner’s Representative, Superintendent, Project Engineer, Field Engineer and Design Manager. He has worked on over 75 construction projects and has achieved numerous honors for those projects and his dedication to the construction industry.
Steve Dishman President of Brookstone has over 40 years’ experience in the construction industry. Dishman, a graduate of Oklahoma State University, is committed to excellence and leadership for his company and the construction Industry.
